As he approaches his sixth anniversary at the helm, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his longevity in North London is fundamentally dependent to winning major honors.
A Look Back: Six Years in Charge
The Spanish coach assumed control on 20 December 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup victory within months. However, that first major trophy is still his lone top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.
“Yes,” Arteta responded upon being asked about remaining in charge after his current deal. “Yet it's about today. And numerous factors have to happen in the next few months as well to earn the right.”
This weekend sees the six-year milestone with a game facing Everton, the exact opponent Arsenal met the day after his role was made public.
Present Challenges

Arteta highlighted the team's performances as a sign they are nearing their goal. “You look at the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the caliber we've reached.”
In closing, the manager stated, “This is a standard that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And our ambition is to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
