This January recruitment period proves to be a period of feverish speculation and possible major transfers. A number of notable players are being connected to transfers out of their current clubs. We examine a selection of the major figures that are poised to be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears a significant move is close. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract featuring a £65 million buy-out clause active for a short window at the start of the month. Latest reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Other interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This English defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer move to Anfield falling through. With his contract due to run out in the close season, January is the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous top sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. Yet, a winter exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has had starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Despite being the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started only a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London club is willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at around £40m.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker could be set for a return to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Still just twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça under new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a January departure looks highly probable. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven England centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of making the England World Cup. But, arranging a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all mentioned as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to a win in the domestic cup final.

C. Gallagher

The energetic midfielder attracted considerable interest in the off-season but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having limited starting appearances in La Liga this season, he is keen to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United are strongly connected, and a move back to Crystal Palace, where he excelled on loan, remains a option, though financial demands might be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Although starring and being named player of the tournament at the U21 Euros last summer, this talented player has struggled for minutes on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Due to specific rules regarding representing multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next season seems to be the only viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for Juventus this term. As his current deal running down, many English clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is widely expected to make a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around £22 million.
