Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Killer.
The pair of scholars who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.
Honoring a Lost Student
Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.
Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences online, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”
The Second Victim
The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.
Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.
The Shooting Incident
Nine more persons were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.
“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
Community Anxiety
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our city”.
The assailant began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a police source told the media outlet.
Police that searched the lodging recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the suspect was detained, according to reports.
Condition of the Injured
Of the nine hurt, one pupil was allowed to go home, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.
Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, friends, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about thousands of bachelor's and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to statistics.
